There are genetic variations in liver enzymes that lead to differing rates of metabolism of some drugs in some individuals. The science has progressed to the point that genetic testing for differences in the Cytochrome P450 enzymes is possible. Palm Beach Compounding Pharmacy works with physicians to optimize therapy for patients who are either likely to be very strong or very poor metabolizers of certain medications or who are taking other medicines that are strongly induce an important metabolic enzyme (e.g, warfarin). The consultation service includes referral to a testing laboratory, interpretation of laboratory results, recommendations for changes in therapy to include either dose or drug changes or both, and formulation of a compounded drug, if needed.
